Spiritualism 1:1

There are millions of people on this planet who believe in a higher being and whatever they call this being, for them it is central. So my question is this: If there is someone or some being that is central to your existence, why would you need an intermediary to connect with this being?

This is my fifth blog now, and the continuous theme that is evolving for me is that spiritually, we should walk our own paths. This is the only way we can truly connect to the divine. If we mindlessly follow dogma, and go through the motions without really searching for our place within this great tapestry, then we are doing no other than joining a club. Learn the prayers and songs, pay your fees and you’re in!

There are as many paths as there are people. Walk your path with joy, but none of us should ever presume to say that our path is the right and only path to enlightenment. We are so varied in our personalities, cultures and our ability to connect that what might be a perfect fit for you, may prove to be extremely uncomfortable for others. I’m a pagan, but I was raised a Catholic.

For many Catholics this path is a good fit for them. For me it chaffed and was as irritating as a cat’s fur being rubbed the wrong way.

I discovered, once I embarked upon my own spiritual journey, that I did not need an intermediary to talk to my Goddess (you can insert which ever words suits you best here ), and a direct line was the best and most meaningful connection.

Don’t get me wrong, many find solace in organised faith, meeting with like-minded people and so on, but it is apparent that the biggest problem with such organised factions is the hierarchy.

Within any hierarchy there can ultimately be found your narcissists, megalomaniacs, sociopaths and other such egocentricities.

Sadly, many who aspire to lead, in virtually all organisations, can lay claim to at least some characteristics from the above list of personality malfunctions. Let’s face it, we all want to feel popular, be heard and be liked, which in and of itself can occasionally cause a person to become skewed in their views and guidance, sometimes resulting in a self-serving agenda. But of course there will always be natural leaders and natural followers. When it comes to your personal faith and beliefs most people may not recognise when the lines begin to blur between one who would be a faith leader/guider, and those who seek to dominate or glorify themselves. Historically many faith organisations have sought to control the masses with their indoctrination and dogma.

Why am I waffling on about all this, you might ask, well for one simple reason; your faith journey is exactly that, it is YOUR journey.

“Search for yourself by yourself. Do not allow others to make your path for you. It is your road and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.” ~ Native American Ethics

Searching for your spirit through an organisation, again, may lead to disconnection, as it’s not really your journey in its truest form. This is particularly so for those who are born into preordained spiritual paths, some on those paths never make the leap to forging their own path and gaining true participation in the relationship with their spirit and beyond.

So whilst we can seek guidance from those who may be on a similar path to the one you have chosen, ultimately you need to pick up the phone and make the call yourself.

There are no coincidences, it truly is a case of ‘when the student is ready the master will appear’ and by ‘master’ I mean any sentient being that may cross your path and teach you something.

Every single person comes to you for a reason, a season or a lifetime; so we learn the lessons, accept the support for a short time, or enjoy a lifetime together.

Waking your spirit and embarking on a journey of discovery can take many forms, most often people feel insecure about following their own instincts and so will seek sources of affirmation.

One of the best places to start is to spend a few minutes each day in quiet meditation. When you still your mind you allow your spirit to speak.

Meditation is my time to connect with my own spirit, my spirit guides (ancestors who have gone before me), and the divine. For me the energies of the Moon and my Goddess move through me in a way that is very real, yet very difficult to put into words, it is something that can only be experienced. Through these quiet times of calm, stress and worldly issues slip away and I find peace in and beyond my own body.

I hope this hasn’t been a blog that is too heavy or controversial. I hope that in some small way I might inspire you to begin a journey of your own. If you are reading this, or indeed if you searched for spiritualism articles, then you are already walking your own path.

Remember there are as many paths as there are people, walk your path with joy.

Thank you for reading my ramblings.

Peace & light to you & Namaste ૐ)0(
